Methods of Quitting Weed

When it comes to quitting there are many ways that work for different people. People come from all different walks of life and different strategies work for different people. Grounded is made to facilitate this process for different people so we have put together a list of methods hoping that you can a strategy that works for you.

What is your why?

Before we start, one of the most important things you can do is define why you want to quit. If you don’t have a strong desire/reason for why you want to quit you won’t be able to overcome temptation. As humans, we are a bundle of desires and the stronger ones always win over the weaker ones.

Cold Turkey Method

Quitting cold turkey means that you completely shut weed out of your life. You recognize that it is no longer serving you and is in fact causing a negative impact on your life. This, in our opinion, is the best and most sure fire method to quit because compared to other methods it is the least likely to cause a relapse. If you plan on completely removing weed from your life, here are a few tips to help you get started:

1. Get Rid of Your Weed, and Utensils

If you’re trying to go cold turkey, having weed or any utensils you use is like playing with fire. The easy access will make it easy to fall back into your habits. Instead, get rid of all of it. This way you will be making it inconvenient for you to use weed again.

2. Avoid Triggers

Humans are creatures of habit, and habits are activated by triggers. Triggers can be people, places, and things that make you want to smoke. To quit successfully, it is recommended that you avoid triggers that cause you to want to smoke.

3. Use Community to Stay Accountable

Quitting and changing habits can be hard, but you don’t have to go it alone. If you can find a group of people to support you on your journey, your chances of sticking to this change will improve tremendously. If you have friends or family that you can confide in about quitting, they can be a great asset in your mission. If this isn’t an option or you would like additional support, you can go online to find a bunch of people who are also quitting. Check out the communities section in Grounded to find such a community.

4. Be knowledgable about withdrawal symptoms

When you embark on your journey it is likely that you will run into some withdrawal symptoms. This can range from anxiety and vivid dreams to irritability and nausea. 4. Pick Up a New Hobby

Now that you’ve cut weed out of your life, you will need to find something to replace the void of your previous habit. If you don’t, you could inevitably fall back into your old patterns or pick up a worse habit. Instead of doing this, try and find an activity that will bring your joy, excitement or peace. This way you will be too busy enjoying life to have the urge to get high. If you would like suggestions on something you can do, check out our article on “Activities to do Instead of Smoking”

5. Start Exercising

Following up from picking up a new hobby, a great routine to start is to exercise. Exercise obviously has many health benefits, including reducing stress which could be a potential trigger for using. In addition to this, it can be used to fill the void and reduce the urge to smoke once you are no longer smoking.

8. Start Meditating

Meditation is good practice to pickup because the more you do it, the better you will be able to manage your moods which could have been a reason you started getting high in the first place. If you would like a resource on how to meditate, please check out the app called headspace:

if you would like a more structured guide on quitting weed, the Drug Addiction Treatment Centre Lund University Hospital  in Lund, Sweden wrote a wonderful in-depth step by step guide that you may find beneficial. You can find it here

Tapering Method

The tapering method is the act of gradually cutting down your weed usage until you don’t smoke anymore. The one caveat in this is that if you don’t have self control/ will power this method may not work too well and you may end back where you started. However if you believe you can attempt this, here is a good link to help you get started

Replacement Method

The replacement method is when you replace your weed use with another act. This method also poses a danger because you risk replacing it with another destructive habit which is why we will suggest a few activities you can try in our article on “Activities to do Instead of Smoking”

Another alternative you can try for replacement is using CBD, if you would like to learn more about CBD please check out our article on “What is CBD?”

CBD is a new market and unregulated so theres a lot of research to be done to find great brands. Do your due diligence to find the right brand for you. However, to make your search easier, we’ve done our research and suggest trying a Brand called “Joy Organics”.

Joy Organics is a Colorado-based family owned CBD company that was founded in 2018. We’ve tried other CBD brands and none so far have come close to the effectiveness of Joy Organics. Here are some reasons we like them:

  • Their product is highly effective and so far compared to other products we’ve used have been the most reliable when it comes to getting a calm and relaxed feeling.
  • They are a brand that actually cares about their products quality and consumers, and aren’t in the CBD industry just to make money.
  • Joy Organics has many CBD products so you can find the right product that fits your needs
  • Their hemp is organically and specifically grown for CBD. Their hemp strain has been refined over the last 7 years to be high in CBD and low in THC. Which they later filter so that their CBD contains zero THC.
  • They’re third-party tested on individual ingredients and the product as a whole so they adhere to the industry standard of CBD manufacturing.
  • Their product contains zero THC because of their purification process that removes THC as well as waxes and chlorophyll.
  • They’re available 7 days a week, and have amazing customer service. They also provide a 30 day money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with their product.
